MARG WOODLOCK-McLEAN As a teenager, Marg represented Australia as a 1956 Olympian in shotput, going on to become Australian Champion in 1958, a title she held until her retirement from athletics in 1962. She has since competed in the 1990 and 1995 Vic Health Masters Games and is a double gold medallist in Shot Put and Discus and a double Silver Medallist in Javelin, as well as being a 1994 World Masters Games Silver Medallist in Shot Put and Bronze Medallist in Javelin. She went on to compete in the 2002 World Masters Games, becoming the 2002 World Masters Champion and Gold Medallist in the Shot Put. As a result of this win, and her lifelong commitment to sport, she was nominated as the 2002 Fairfax Sports Star of the Year. She continues
her involvement with the Olympic movement as a serving member
of the Victorian
Olympic Club Executive Committee,
and worked
as a volunteer at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, as well as running with the 2000
Olympic Torch in Frankston.
Marg has also produced several large-scale televised concerts at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and the Victorian Arts Centre with various television personalities and youth groups to raise money for charities such as The Royal Children's Hospital. Marg is a member of the Victorian Olympians Club (Executive Committee Member), Athletics International, Australian Red Cross, Sports Medicine Australia and a recent member of The Australiasian Institute of Fundraising. She has received the Emu Award from the Australian Guide Association - National award for outstanding service to Guiding Australia, Long Service Award from Red Cross Australia for outstanding service to Red Cross Victoria and the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Biographical Institute Inc. for outstanding service to youth, sport and recreation. She was honoured by St Catherines' Girls School in 1995 when they created the Margaret Woodlock Bursary for superlative sporting achievement, in recognition of her contribution and achievement in sport. The inaugural beneficiary of this award was Lauren Hewitt - who would go on to become another Australian Olympian. |
