"I have to finish the race!" - Zac, Heart

sally mcleanCo-Producer - Sally McLean

Now based in Melbourne, Australia, Sally is an independent film producer, occasional screenwriter, actor and the Creative Director of Australian independent film company, Incognita Enterprises.

Sally began her obsession with the written word at the age of 12, when she wrote her first novel. Being all too aware of her other obsession - that of perfectionism - she gave her one and only copy of the manuscript to a friend to keep in a safe place for a while, so she wouldn't be tempted to rework it for the thirtieth time.

Unfortunately that friend's mother discovered the work and, mistaking this handwritten masterpiece for her son's old homework notes, used it for kindling in the sitting room fireplace over the ensuing winter.

Deciding that maybe writing wasn't her thing, she instead put all her efforts into establishing an acting career. She worked in and around the Melbourne theatre and television scene, before leaving for London to work for the BBC and explore the possibility of being accepted into a drama school in London.

A couple of years later, having graduated from The Actors' Institute, London, and with far too much time on her hands, Sally suddenly had the inspiration to return to the writing arena and try her hand at writing a screenplay. The feature, A Little Rain Must Fall, was written in three months and with the absence of a suitable producer, she formed her production outfit, Salmac Productions (the predecessor to Incognita Enterprises) to get the script to the screen. The completed film was launched at Ealing Studios to an invited audience, which resulted in discusssions with the BBC and the Bravo Channel in the UK, as well as invitations for screenings from the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals.

Salmac gained further respectability, when the late, highly respected British actor, Sir Nigel Hawthorne agreed to become Salmac's Honorary Patron after viewing "A Little Rain ..." in late 1997 - a position he held until his death in December 2001.

Realising that she had found a new medium to play with, Sally dedicated every waking minute to her next feature script Dalny (working title), which is now represented by Neon Films in Sydney. She decided the moment had arrived to at least give the appearance of being a "real" writer and joined the AWG in 1999. She has since written, produced and directed the films fixNation and Brigit & Benny (a modern faerietale), as well as the stage productions PS I Love You and the upcoming Chasing Pegasus (a play in ten chords).

Sally also wrote and co-produced the television magazine program, Streetworks, for MPTV, and Youth On Radio for radio station 3RPP-FM. She has worked in production for the BBC in their Music and Arts and Commercial Channels Departments, worked in casting, production and administration for different independent production companies, and continues to work as an actor in various theatre productions, television programs and films in Australia and the UK.
